Kaiut Therapeutic Yoga

Kaiut Yoga is a therapeutic method designed to restore mobility, improve joint health, and support pain-free movement as we age. Developed by Brazilian chiropractor Francisco Kaiut, the practice uses long-held, floor-based postures to release tension, realign the body, and nourish the joints and connective tissues.

I’ve been teaching yoga for over 20 years, and this method is unlike any other style I’ve practiced or taught. It’s not about touching your toes or perfecting a pose. Rather than chasing flexibility or performance, Kaiut Yoga works with functional biomechanics to create ease, restore balance, and build resilience.

I first encountered it in 2012, when I took classes with Francisco in Colorado. At the time, I was still carrying chronic pain in my neck and shoulders from a car accident years earlier. After just two weeks of daily practice, that pain—which I had quietly assumed I’d live with forever—was almost completely gone. I left those classes feeling more freedom in my body than I could remember having.

Years later, during the pandemic, I returned to the practice. When I discovered Francisco was teaching online, I joined his school and began practicing almost daily. That consistency changed everything. Not only did it ease the tension in my neck and shoulders that had crept back in over the years, it also revealed deeper patterns—an old ankle injury, compensations in my posture, and subtle weaknesses I hadn’t been aware of.

What struck me most was how this method met me exactly where I was. It didn’t ask me to force my body or push past discomfort. Instead, it taught me to listen differently. Pain stopped being something “bad” to get rid of, instead becoming valuable communication from my body. That shift alone has been life-changing.

Eventually I enrolled in teacher training, and what I learned made me fall in love with the method even more. Francisco’s approach speaks directly to the realities of Western bodies and lifestyles—the stress, stiffness, and injuries we accumulate over time. As an Ayurvedic practitioner, I resonated deeply with the way this method restores the body’s natural intelligence. It’s about allowing nature to work through us, rather than imposing our ideas of how the body should look or feel.

Now I share this practice with my students—many of whom are women in their 50s and 60s—and I’ve witnessed remarkable results: from reducing anxiety and easing chronic pain, to avoiding hip replacements. Kaiut Yoga is accessible, sustainable, and deeply restorative. It teaches us to move with greater freedom, resilience, and ease—supporting not just our bodies today, but our capacity to age well for years to come.
